Couple Thoughts

Have you ever felt like your brain has just shut off, and for you to have a decent thought it takes days, because your brain is so numb? Well, my brain has been like that for a few days. I think it's partly due to the fact that I'm tired, but have been going non-stop with my friends for a few days. Then today I worked for 9 hours, you could tell by the end that I was out of it...that's off subject though. Today, it felt like my brain was finally stimulated again to think.

This morning my friend and I went to church. (the sermon was very "iffy" as another friend of mine put it). It didn't make sense to me, the points didn't seem to connect, and I'm not sure what I was to take away from Denny talking for 20 minutes. Except maybe, that there 10 commandments, and that's a way to measure my spiritual health...but I didn't understand the rest of it.

After church we went to lunch, and I asked her what she thought of his message, and she said that she tuned a good portion of it out, because her mind was on other thoughts. The one thought that she had that I actually began to think about further was basically, why do we put so much focus on the people playing the instrutments and singing up front. Why don't we put them in the back, or something? People seem to focus on the people up there, instead of God. I know that (well, girls at least) talk about what the people are wearing, and the motions that they did, etc. That's not focusing on God. Why don't we just put them in the back, or how can we as humans trying to worship train our minds to focus on God and not those things happening around us?

Another thought I had because of that, was why don't we have crosses anymore in churches? It seems that the newer the building, and the more contemporary the church seems to be, there's nothing reminding you of Christ. We put so much money and effort into having a nice facility, yet seem to forget about about the reason we want the facility, and that's to share the message of Christ. We don't put anything up that would cause a conversation to occur, we seem to take the focus off of Christ, and onto others. Why?

Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, maybe most people think I'm thinking in absurd ways, however it's a few thoughts I was having today. I could go further into thought, but I am exhausted and am going to head to bed instead.

hey that was kind of what i wad thinking when i said for the singers to be in the back. it would be cool if there was a wooden cross on stage.

I've had that same thought about leading worship! Hope you don't mind if I quote you in my blog. ;-)

Concerning the crosses thing, I've never really understood why Christians focus so much on the cross anyway. I mean, yeah, Jesus suffered and died on a cross because of our sin, but that's not what saved us -- His resurrection is where our salvation lies. If there was only a cross and a dead Jesus, then Christianity wouldn't exist anyway, but His resurrection proves that death (the penalty for our sin) was defeated. Otherwise, death would've won, ya know? So, instead of having crosses everywhere and celebrating His death, I wish we would have icons of empty tombs and celebrate His resurrection.
